01

Write one precise question

Replace “What is the law?” with a narrower question such as “Which limitations provision covers an ordinary negligence injury against a private party in this state?” One page should not answer several unrelated intents.

02

Record source identity and status

Note the issuing legislature, court, regulator, or licensing body; the section or document title; the URL; and the date reviewed. Prefer current primary sources.

03

Copy concepts, not isolated numbers

Record the claim category, scope, accrual wording, threshold, exceptions, cross-references, effective date, and applicability language. A number without those fields is easy to misuse.

04

List facts the source does not resolve

Create a separate column for disputed or unknown facts: party status, incident date, discovery date, employment, government involvement, insurance, location, and prior notices.

05

End with a verification step

Use the notes to ask a locally licensed lawyer a focused question. Update or discard the record if the official source changes.
